the Bible – God’s Word
II. OTHER EVIDENCE
G. Human Completeness
Every human being longs to understand the true nature of their existence. The questions are natural and universal: Where did I come from? Why am I here? What will happen to me when I die? Why is there pain, suffering and death? How am I to understand the evil that is found in this world, including within myself? Is there a God in heaven and, if so, does He love me?
Without satisfactory answers to these questions, and perhaps other questions like it, the heart of man is left feeling empty and incomplete. Thankfully, the Bible has answers for these questions. In the pages of the written Word of God and in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the living Word of God, the answers to some of life’s biggest questions, and satisfaction for the human hearts deepest longings can be found.
Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” (John 8:12)
Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst. (John 6:35)
The Apostle Paul wrote the following encouraging words to those who were believers in Jesus.
“… in Him you have been made complete (Colossians 2:10)
The Greek work translated “made complete” has as its root meaning the idea of being filled up and therefore made complete.
Man was never made to live apart from his creator or to live a finite existence. When a person puts their faith in Jesus Christ and believes the Gospel message they are reconciled to a loving God and they begin a very real relationship with Him that will last through time and into eternity. The reality of the love of God available to provide and protect for time and eternity energizes the soul with inner strength and joy that can be found nowhere else!
No other religion but Christianity offers a credible hope of life after death. Based on the reality of a resurrected savior, Jesus Christ, we can have a hope that is an anchor for our soul. Only Jesus Christ the Son of God spoke these words, and He alone is the only one who can make good on the promise they contain.
“I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me shall live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me shall never die.” (John 11:25-26)
We would expect that a book given to us by God would answer some of life’s biggest questions and provide the pathway to bring satisfaction for some of the hearts deepest longings. In the Bible, we have such a book!
