Just like today there were skeptics in Jesus day who doubted there was life after death. They questioned Jesus at times in ways they thought would confound him. In answering them one day Jesus quoted from the Old Testament scriptures citing Exodus 3:6. You can read the whole story beginning in Matthew 22:31 later if you like.
What is noteworthy about Jesus response was the way in which he referred to the Old Testament passage he quoted when he said, “Have you not read what was spoken to you by God”! This is one of the many places in the New Testament where Jesus and the Apostles refer to the Old Testament scriptures as the Word of God through which God speaks to us.
We know that Jesus and the Apostles were God’s chosen vessels to bring us the truth. When they speak to an issue we should hear what they have to say and embrace it as true. In the case of the Old Testament scriptures there can be no doubt that Jesus and the Apostles considered them to be the Word of God through which God has spoken to our world!
