“Are you the Son of God?….. Yes, I am” (Luke 22:70 Nasb)
In the New Testament we learn that Jesus claimed to be the Son of God, sent by God to bear witness to the truth and to speak the words that God had given Him. Jesus told people to believe His claims because of the miraculous power of God at work in His life, including His own resurrection from the dead.
The writers also report that they themselves saw these miracles and in some cases observed Jesus alive after His crucifixion and burial. Based on what they heard, saw, and experienced firsthand, the New Testament authors believed what Jesus claimed about Himself and encouraged others to do likewise.
If what is reported in the New Testament about Jesus is accurate, and if what Jesus said about himself is true, then what we have written in the New Testament is more than just a historical record of a man from the first century. What we have is a written record of the words of the Son of God who came to testify to the truth and speak the words which God had given Him. We have the Word of God!
