the Bible – God’s Word

II. OTHER EVIDENCE

G. Human Completeness

Every human being longs to understand the true nature of their existence. The questions are natural and universal: Where did I come from? Why am I here? What will happen to me when I die? Why is there pain, suffering and death? How am I to understand the evil that is found in this world, including at times within myself? Is there a God in heaven and, if so, does He know me and love me?

Without satisfactory answers to these questions, and other questions like it, the heart of man is left feeling empty and incomplete. Thankfully, the Bible has the answers for these questions. In the pages of the written Word of God and in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the living Word of God, the answers to life’s biggest questions can be found.

Your word is a lamp to my feet, And a light to my path. (Psalm 119:105)

The unfolding of Your words gives light; It gives understanding… (Psalm 119:130)

Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” (John 8:12)

Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst. (John 6:35)

The Apostle Paul wrote the following encouraging words to those who were believers in Jesus.

“… in Him you have been made complete (Colossians 2:10)

The Greek work translated “made complete” has as its root meaning the idea of being filled up and therefore made complete.

Man was not created to live apart from his creator or to live a finite existence. When a person puts their faith in Jesus Christ and believes the Gospel message they are reconciled to a loving God and they begin a very real relationship with Him that will last through time and eternity. The reality of this love of energizes the soul with inner strength, joy and contentment that can be found nowhere else!

No other religion but Christianity offers a credible hope of life after death. Based on the reality of a resurrected savior, Jesus Christ, one can have this hope which is an anchor for the soul. Only Jesus Christ the Son of God spoke the following words, and He alone is the only one who can make good on the promises they contain.

“I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me shall live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me shall never die.” (John 11:25-26)

The completeness which every individual longs for is not just found in obtaining a right relationship to God. In order to be “complete” every human being must become a part of a community of caring people where they find acceptance, encouragement and genuine love. When a person becomes a disciple of Jesus Christ they enter just such a community where, next to love of God, love of neighbor is the highest priority. We see this clearly In the teachings of Jesus and the apostles.

(John 13:34) A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

(Romans 12:9-10;16) Let love be without hypocrisy. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor; 16 Be of the same mind toward one another; do not be haughty in mind, but associate with the lowly.

(Romans 15:7) Therefore, accept one another, just as Christ also accepted us…

(1 Peter 1:22) Since you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls for a sincere love of the brethren, fervently love one another from the heart

(Philippians 2:3-4) Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; 4 do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.

We would expect that a book given to us by God would answer some of life’s biggest questions and provide the pathway to find satisfaction for some of the hearts deepest longings. In the Bible, we have such a book and we find again another good reason for believing that God has spoken to our world in and through its pages!
