the will of god
B. Salvation
In the introduction to this topic “The Will of God”, we looked at Titus 2:11-14 saying that it provides for us an outline of the three-fold will of God. In verse fourteen the apostle Paul explains that Jesus, “gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed.”
In two other places in the New Testament the apostle Paul tells us that it is when a person’s sins have been forgiven that they have been redeemed.
In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace (Ephesians 1:7)
For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. (Colossians 1:13-14)
On the home page in the second main point, “God’s Love”, we learned that God has expressed His love for this world by sending His Son Jesus to die for the sins of the world so that those who believe in Him would have their sins forgiven and be redeemed. This is the Gospel message of salvation. In the third main point on the home page, “God’s Will”, we explained that God calls on each person to respond to the Gospel message by believing in the name of His Son Jesus. Both of these home page main points were described in greater depth in the fifth main topic in the Library, “The Gospel – God’s Love”.
We invite you, if you have not already done so, to take some time to read through those three sections of the website before proceeding on to “Sanctification”, the second part of God’s three-fold will for our lives. Because the Gospel message has already been covered in some depth in these three sections we will summarize the essential main points for review.
We start with the reminder that what God has spoken in the New Testament is clear. He has brought salvation to all men, and He desires all men to be saved. What then is God’s will? God’s will for our lives is that we be saved by believing in the name of His Son Jesus! (Titus 2:11; 1 Timothy 2:3-4; John 6:40; 1 John 3:23)
The Essentials of Salvation:
1. God created this world and the people in it, and all are accountable to Him. (Genesis 1:1; 1:26-27; 2:15-17; Psalm 24:1-2; Psalm 100:3; Romans 3:19)
2. All men have sinned and are alienated from God because of sin. (Isaiah 59:1; Romans 3:23; 5:12; 6:23)
3. Jesus came into this world to save mankind from sin. (Luke 19:10; I Timothy 1:15; I John 4:14)
4. Salvation, the forgiveness of all our sins, is possible because Jesus died for our sins. (Romans 1:16; I Corinthians 15: 1-4; Colossians 2:13-14)
5. Those who believe in Jesus, repent, and receive Him as their Savior and Lord are redeemed and will be saved. (John 1:12; John 3:16; Luke 24:46, Romans 10:9)
6. Salvation is by God’s grace, through faith, for none can merit Salvation by good works. (Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 3:20-22, 28)
7. Those who reject Jesus and the Gospel will not be saved. (Acts 17:30; I John 3:23; Hebrews 10:26-27; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-10)
Those who have read through the contents of this website up until this point have reached an important place in their journey. If we believe that God has spoken to our world in the Bible, explaining our need of Salvation from sin and His will for all people to believe in the name of His Son Jesus, then a decision needs to be made. Each person must decide for themselves if they will respond in obedience to God and His call for all to repent and believe the Gospel. While a decision of this magnitude can take some time, the scriptures tell us of the dangers of neglecting the Gospel (Hebrews 2:1-4), and of the dreadful consequences of rejecting the Gospel (2 Thessalonians 1:7-10).
If God has been “speaking” to you through His Word, if you have “heard” the voice of Jesus as you have read His words in the New Testament, then don’t delay, and respond by placing your trust in Jesus and following Him.
We invite you to move on to the second part of God’s three-fold will for our lives, Sanctification.
